This is the perfect example of the type vehicles I search for, it has sustained damage to the rear end probably very low speed whilst Sat in traffic. From the pictures you can see it needs a rear bumper, with possible damage to the parking sensors or its wiring aswell as the exhaust silencer. Behind the bumper is a steel cross member that bolts onto the end of the chassis rails & in this case a polystyrene form to absorb impacts.
This exhaust was a simple repair the rear silencer itself was undamaged with only this steel peg having been twisted, once this was straightened & Located in the rubber exhaust mounting above.
With the rear exhaust silencer now level & secure re-attached in its original position,
The complete system is then checked for any further damage & leaks.
This is my favourite bit.!
There has been slight movement in the back panel as indicated in the corners of the spare wheel well.
This takes very little effort to push back into the correct position. Using rubber covers when correcting the damage makes for a invisible paintless repair. Making sure the Spare wheel insert & coverings now fit as they should & the tailgate opens, closes & locks correctly. Whilst continuously fitting & removing the Rear bumper covering to check tailgate shut lines.
On go the replacement parts.
Notice the newly painted rear apron & the damaged bumper support on the floor.
First on is the bumper support / cross member, the original has done its job & absorbed most of the impact. I source all spares using part numbers from the damaged original, as you can see this bolts back onto The rear chassis rails.
Next is the polystyrene bumper filler, this gives some support to the replacement rear bumper.
Which is the next item to fit.
In reality it's been on & off a few times as has all the other bits to check & re-check everything is in the correct position before paintwork is started.
Once paintwork is complete fitting does not take long, reconnection & testing of the rear lights & parking sensors. Reattaching the wheelarch spats needs just a handful of new clips & the rear end is finished.
Preparation for MOT & Sale
Preparation involves checks of all the cars systems making sure everything works as intended.
The engine is serviced getting an Oil & filter change, also air & fuel filter & finally an engine electrical diagnostic test. All helping to ensure a pass on the emissions element of the MOT test & continued reliability.
The braking system is serviced it is stripped down, cleaned & inspected with replacement of any worn parts.
As with all vehicles to be allowed on the roads they must pass an mot test. A damaged repaired vehicle requires an new mot pass before it can be returned to the road.
Once passed the vehicle has tracking/wheel alignments checked before it's time to get the car professionally valeted then advertised for sale.
When buying from insurance companies you do not receive any paperwork with the car other than a purchase receipt from the auction company.
This includes the v5 registration document this is witheld for data protection reasons. The V5 is requested from D.V.L.A straight away so then the vehicle can be roadtaxed by the new owner.
Starting from scratch
The service history is unlikly to be present when buying from insurance companies. The new history starts with MOT information from
https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history
This can show the way a car has been treated & maintained throughout its life, lots of passes with few advisories shows its been maintained well & not just for the first few dealership services to maintain the warranty. Contacting the dealership that sold the car new can reveal trustworthy early history. The hpi vehicle identity report I purchase before buying any vehicle can confirm there is:
NO outstanding finance, NO record of theft, Accurate Mileage history & NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE.
On each vehicle I sell I keep records of all repairs & servicing, including photo & or video records to show any repairs so you know exactly the condition of your new car. This is passed on to the new owner.
The car for starters with everything working correctly, Full years MOT, Engine serviced, brakes serviced.
Any details i've managed to collect including mot history & vehicle identity checks
Details of all purchases of parts & services I have used to repair & service the car.
Photo's of the car before & after repair so you can gauge for yourself the severity of any damage.
Photo's detailing the complete repair from start to finish.
